FAQ | Psychoanalysis & Psychotherapy, Pasadena & NELA
-
Both share the same theoretical foundation and the same basic method: sustained, exploratory work attentive to what is repeated, avoided, and what is yet to be said. The difference is largely one of frequency and depth. For those who desire analysis, we will meet twice a week over an extended period, allowing for a more intensive and continuous engagement with the material. For psychoanalytic psychotherapy we will meet once or twice weekly and may be more focussed or time-limited, depending on what a person wishes to work through. Which is the better fit is something we can discuss together, based on your circumstances and what you're looking for.

Psychoanalysis meets twice weekly; psychoanalytic psychotherapy meets once weekly. Length of treatment varies — some people work through something specific over a defined period, while others continue longer as new material emerges. We revisit pacing and length together as the work develops.
